The Valley of Butterflies is found in the western side of Rhodes Island, 26km far from Rhodes City. It is the place where tiger moths of the species gather in summer. This species of butterfly is common in the Mediterranean, in Europe and in Western Asia.
During the rainy season, butterflies stay in the caterpillar form in various areas of the Mediterranean Sea. However in spring, when they get out of their caterpillar and become a full butterfly, they fly to areas of high humidity in order to reproduce. That is why they come to this valley, which is crossed by river Pelekanos with many waterfalls scattered all along it. You can enjoy a peaceful walk on the wooden bridges and admire the beauty of the valley.
